Stranded passengers

For the unlucky few whose flights got delayed, making it impossible to connect on time, it's truly Friday the thirteenth!

One couple left Ireland in the morning and sat on the runway for five hours before the weather permitted them to fly. Since their flight was a codeshare between Aerlingus and British Airways, they weren't quite sure who to turn to once they arrived in London. British Airways said -- tough luck. Aerlingus, being Irish and kind, put them up at the hotel, free meals included.

A Scotsman, now retired, told me about his daughter, a wardrobe designer in Hollywood. Yes, he was proud of her. She was a prize winning costume designer in Scotland, but there was no work for her. Now that she's made it in Hollywood, designing the clothes for "Dumb and Dumber" and other blockbusters, she's invited him to visit for a month. She promised to get him a part.

Everyone has a story to tell, particularly stranded passengers who don't expect to be staying in the interim. Just strangers in the night, they like to pass the time by listening to the piano (wo)man and then sharing their tales afterwards.
