DATING X, Y, Z (continued from 5 July)

Disco dancing offers body talk which is the immediate predecessor to closer intimacy. Physical contact is necessary, for it foretells whether the acidic female arm can successfully react with the basic male shoulder. In touch dancing, loose, unbalanced turns probably warn of a shaky relationship. firm hand grips, however, signify uncontrollable desires. This continual touching produces a lasting effect.

The first date is an experiment whereby the hypothesis is formed. On the second date, the probability of a good relationship is tested. Successive dates confirm the initial intuition. Whatever the case, the underlying intent is best revealed in public places.

There are so many kinds of dates: double date, blind date, double blind date, etc. In high school, I participated in the dating game show. The guy I really wanted to go out with had pretended to be blind, deaf, and mute. So there were only two choices left. My sister set me up with a pilot after I saw the movie Top Gun. I wanted to know what it was like to date a pilot. What is a date? Do you go Dutch or do you let the man pay? How long should a date be?

I had jotted down my thoughts of the day during my travels. Now that I've FINALLY unpacked and cleaned up my room, I found these notes. So I will now "back-fill" my on-line diary.

I wrote this essay when I was a young, naive teenager. Lovesick from reading Harlequin Romances, I had an idealistic view of what dating was. My friend in Virginia - the first gentleman who taught me how to behave like a lady to be treated like one - mailed it to me recently - to remind me of my innocence.
